At Farmstead Scattering Garden, we understand the importance of handling your loved one’s cremated remains with the utmost care, respect, and timeliness. This shipping policy outlines how we process, handle, and secure shipments to and from our facility.

1. Shipping to Farmstead Scattering Garden

To ensure the safe and timely delivery of cremated remains, please adhere to the following guidelines:

  • Timing: We must receive cremated remains within five years. 
  • Shipping Method: We recommend using USPS Priority Mail Express (required for cremated remains within the U.S.) as the only legal means to ship cremated remains. Ensure the package is clearly marked as containing cremated remains in compliance with postal and carrier regulations.
  • Packaging Requirements: Use a durable, leak-proof container within secure outer packaging. Include the required documentation (e.g., cremation certificate, order confirmation, and specific instructions).

2. Upon Receipt

Once your package arrives at our facility:

  • Holding Period: Ashes will be held for 24 hours before scattering (unless a specific date is requested) to allow for changes to instructions if needed.
  • Storage and Handling: Cremated remains are stored in a secure, climate-controlled area to ensure they are handled with care and dignity.

3. Returning Ashes (if applicable)

If you request the return of cremated remains:

  • Service Fee: a 5% service may be deducted from the refund.
  • Shipping Costs: You are responsible for the cost of return shipping, including tracking and insurance if desired.
  • Carrier and Packaging: We will use a secure shipping method and ensure proper packaging to comply with postal regulations.

4. Lost or Delayed Shipments

Farmstead Scattering Garden is not liable for delays or losses caused by the shipping carrier. To minimize the risk:

  • Always use the United States Postal Service, a carrier that provides tracking and confirmation of delivery.
  • Ensure accurate addressing and proper documentation are included.
  • For returned ashes, tracking information will be provided to you upon shipment.
